Hough Receives March of Dimes Excellence in Nursing Nomination

Columbus, NE (October, 2010) Sara Hough, BSN, RN, has been nominated for the 2010 March of Dimes Excellence in Nursing Award and was honored at the Awards Presentation in Omaha on October 21. Nurses from across the state are nominated based on leadership and contributions that have made an impact on their community and the profession of nursing.

“Staff regard Sara as a “seasoned expert”, states Linda Walline, Vice President of Nursing. “Sara is always anxious to learn and share her knowledge.” Both the hospital and the community at large have benefited from her expertise in Quality Improvement, Infection Control and Patient Safety.

As Risk Manager for the Hospital, Sara is responsible for facilitating Risk Management, Patient Safety and Infection Control. Sara also facilitates the Clinical Patient Safety Committee.

She developed the Hospital’s pandemic response plan and also assisted with coordination of the community pandemic action plan.

As an active participant in the community, Sara has served on the Board of the American Red Cross, and was instrumental in coordinating blood drives at the Hospital, allowing employees a convenient opportunity to give the Gift of Life. She has also been active on the Hospital’s Relay for Life team and is a role model on the importance of volunteerism.

Walline says Sara’s extensive nursing career provides her with a wealth of knowledge, “You learn something from her with each encounter.
