Certified Lactation Consultants
Columbus Community Hospital has three International Board Certified Lactation Consultants on staff, available to provide one on one care and instruction to help new mothers breastfeed successfully. Our IBCLC’s use evidence based practice to support and educate families. They are a great source of encouragement and information, empowering parents to make their own decisions. Lactation consultants can assist in many ways, including:
- Educating on comfort positions to help baby latch
- Evaluating breast pain or infections
- Knowing if your baby is getting enough milk
- Training to pump and store milk safely
- Advocating for skin to skin after delivery
- Teaching how to nurse multiples or babies with special needs
- Assisting breastfeeding mothers when returning to work
If the lactation consultants are not working, they have a dedicated phone line for questions. One of the three will be in touch within 24 hours of the call. The dedicated phone number is 402-562-4680. If patients need immediate assistance, they can always call the OB floor 402-562-3266 and they can get them in touch with one of the Lactation Consultants so their needs can be met in a more timely fashion.
