VolunTEEN program

When you join Columbus Community Hospital’s VolunTEEN program, you will provide hands-on service as an extension of the health care team while developing new skills and making new friendships.

Teens in the program are assigned to a service area based on their availability and interests.  Volunteer shifts are available after school and on weekends. Participants must be between 14 and 18 years old and a current high school student. A minimum of a one-year commitment to the program is required.

VolunTEEN scholarship
Participants in the VolunTEEN program are eligible for the VolunTEEN scholarship, which CCH’s volunteer & guest services department awards annually.

Scholarship applicants must have volunteered for a minimum of 50 hours at CCH. They may submit these cumulative hours from their active status date through March 31 of the year in which they are applying for the scholarship. Once a VolunTEEN’s hours have been totaled and submitted for an application, that VolunTEEN's service hours will be reset to "0" unless they do not receive a scholarship. In that case, the hours will continue to accumulate for future scholarship applications.

VolunTEENs must still be active volunteers at the time they submit the scholarship application, and they are eligible to reapply annually for a scholarship as long as they continue to meet all the requirements.

VolunTEENs who are not in good standing (who missed three volunteer shifts or had five unexcused tardies in a calendar year) will not be considered for a scholarship.

The volunteer & guest services department awards a maximum of five scholarships each year in the amounts of $250, $500, $750 or $1,000.

A scholarship committee composed of CCH volunteers evaluates and rates VolunTEEN scholarship applications. Committee members weigh each application on six criteria: attendance, organization and community involvement, leadership qualities, future goals, academics or work experience and the total number of approved volunteer service hours at CCH. Applicants' combined points, out of a maximum of 100 points, determine the scholarship award amount.

Scholarships are awarded based on the following scale:
90-100 points = $1,000
80-89 points = $750
65-79 points = $500
50-64 points = $250

To learn more about the VolunTEEN scholarship, read this overview of the scholarship and its selection process.

To apply for the VolunTEEN scholarship, download and complete the VolunTEEN Scholarship application.
